Often asked...

What’s a financial settlement?

It’s the division of the marital assets which includes payment of maintenance (both for spouses and children) and decisions in respect of the family home, pensions and any other assets.

How do I get a financial settlement?

This is best achieved by way of agreement either directly between yourself and your spouse, or through negotiation via a solicitor. If agreement can’t be reached in this way then an application can be made for the court to make the final decision.

How much will it cost?

It’s difficult to predict as it depends on the assets at stake and the level of agreement, but the cost is generally between £2500 and £5000.

How long will it take?

This is dependant on the level of negotiation required, but normally between 6 to 12 months.
