Medicine and medical treatment is becoming more and more complex. So, we rely on medical advice to decide which treatment will be best for us and what risks we run when putting our health and life, or that of our family, into a doctor’s or other medical professional’s hands. Unfortunately medical negligence does occur and if you are injured as a result you may be able to make a claim for compensation with assistance from our medical negligence solicitors.
Medical negligence can occur at a hospital, GP surgery, nursing or care home, private clinic, outpatients department, or anywhere where you are in contact with a health professional. You may need the help of our medical negligence solicitors for:
- Mis-diagnosis

What to do if you think you've suffered from medical negligence
Seek advice quickly because there are strict time limits for making complaints, often as little as 13 weeks.
We recommend that before starting legal action against a medical practitioner that you talk to them first. There may be a genuine misunderstanding, or a problem in communication, that can often be resolved at this stage.
If this fails, you should make a more formal complaint. To complain about a GP you must write to the Practice Manager and to complain about a hospital you must write to the Complaints Manager. Making a complaint is useful if your concerns are about procedures or behavior that you want to put right, or if you want an apology for the way you have been treated.
You only have three years from the date of the medical negligence, or the date when you knew or ought to have known of the medical negligence to start Court Proceedings. It is therefore important that you seek advice from medical negligence solicitors as soon as you are aware that you may have been a victim of medical negligence.
