Blakemores Solicitors has been getting a taste of life in the armed forces thanks to an ‘Executive Stretch’ weekend run by SaBRE. Eleven members of staff from the Birmingham and Leamington Spa offices joined forces to raise almost £2000 for SSAFA, (Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen & Families Association) a charity supporting members of the armed forces and their families.
Joanne Miller, a partner in the dispute resolution department at Blakemores and a participant at the weekend, commented “it is really encouraging that people are willing to support such a worthy cause even in this difficult financial climate, the team worked hard and that was reflected in the generous donations we received.” Blakemores’ Managing Partner, Guy Barnett, formerly a Sergeant Major himself, pledged to match the sponsorship money raised.
Over the course of the weekend, staff got to experience a minefield situation, gun fights and a range of teamwork activities before spending the night in shelters they made themselves. Samantha Flood, a secretary at Blakemores said “we had so much fun, we got a real taste of life in the forces and the teamwork that is essential to the way they work, it really was a valuable experience which I will never forget.”
This is just one of many events Blakemores is planning over the next few months in support of SSAFA, their nominated charity for this year. For further details about this and other forthcoming events including a fashion show and a paintballing tournament keep an eye on the Blakemores website.
